Kent Families from the U.S. Mid-South Region

This region includes Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. For an explanation of regions and more information on the the hyperlinks embedded into the lineages, please see "Kent Lineages by Region.”

KENTUCKY

From PENNSYLVANIA or KENTUCKY (Adair Co., KY) to MISSOURI (Montgomery Co., MO, Warren Co., MO) to ARKANSAS to NEW MEXICO (Grant Co., NM) to TEXAS (Bexar Co., TX, DeWitt Co., TX, Edwards Co., TX, Val Verde Co., TX)

The following is a cluster of Kent Lineages with a mixture of some matching paper trails and matching DNA results (as indicated). Some pedigrees have connections to Georgia and beyond (see the Southern Gulf region).

NORTH CAROLINA

From NORTH CAROLINA to GEORGIA (Montgomery Co., GA, Toombs Co., GA, Warren Co., GA, Wheeler Co., GA)

NORTH CAROLINA

From NORTH CAROLINA (Craven Co., NC, Jones Co., NC) to GEORGIA (Emanuel Co., GA, Jenkins Co., GA) to LOUISIANA (East Feliciana Parish, LA)

There are currently eight (8) lineages descending from Thomas Kent of Craven Co., NC (c 1730-1782) through either one of his two wives. It is genetically confirmed by yDNA testing that Thomas Kent of Craven Co., NC relates (on the strictly patrilineal line) to Benoni Kent of Fairfax Co., Virginia (c 1725-1774). It unknown if they were first cousins or beyond. A manuscript by Jack Berg entitled "Thomas Kent and His Descendants" (1993) has been of great value for this cluster and is highly valued. (MMR, 08 Aug. 2017) COMMENT: Add BERG manuscript

SOUTH CAROLINA

There currently aren’t any lineages solely associated with this state. It may be important to check other states associated with a specific Kent family or to review the entire region associated with this state to see if another researcher has a common ancestor or brick wall that may relate to your own.

TENNESSEE

From TENNESSEE (Lincoln Co., TN) to ILLINOIS (Gallatin Co., IL)

VIRGINIA

From VIRGINIA (Cumberland Co., VA, Halifax Co., VA, Henrico Co., VA), MISSISSIPPI (Montgomery Co., MS)

The following collective lineages have their Kent Ancestry as
Senator Robert Kent (ca 1712-1783) and his wife, Mary Ligon EASLEY.

VIRGINIA

From VIRGINIA (Hanover Co., VA, Fluvanna Co., VA) to PENNSYLVANIA (Delaware Co., PA) to GEORGIA (Murray Co., GA) to TENNESSEE (Cocke Co., TN, Hardin Co., TN, Henderson Co., TN) to MISSOURI (Wayne Co., MO)

y-DNA Matching Between Members (Male Only Test)

Participant #338257 (J. Critchfield) has taken a 111 marker yDNA test and genetically matches the following Kent males (listed in order of estimated genetic distance, then by established descendants). (10 Aug. 2017)

Established descendant of Abram Critchfield, b 28 Sep 1845 Coldwater, Branch, MI d 22 Jan 1887 Oakley, Cassia, Idaho m Orissa Mariah BATES. The biological ancestry of Abram Critchfield has yet to be determined, there is a strong yDNA connection to descendants of the Benoni Kent family. Further research is warranted.

atDNA Matching Between Members of the Kent Family and DNA Project

Participant #338257 (J. Critchfield) has taken a “Family Finder” test at Family Tree DNA and genetically matches the following Kent project member(s). Any genetic connection should not be presumed as on their respective KENT branches. Family relationships closer than at the second cousin level will not be listed in this section and the “centiMorgans” in common should only include segments of 5.0 or more. (05 Aug. 2017)
