The Kent Family & DNA Project is a free community of researchers interested in the genealogy of their respective KENT families. The following are multiple ways to get involved, one of which is optional DNA testing.
The only way to utilize DNA results for genealogy is by viewing your "match list" of genetic cousins, then by comparing each other's known ancestry in an effort to identify a common ancestor. Most people involved with the Kent Family & DNA Project are trying to determine if their genetic ancestry matches with another established Kent family from a long time ago, most often from the 1700s/1800s. Working with atDNA test results to find distant ancestors can be a challenge!
Luckily, some of our Kent researchers are up to this challenge and can identify patterns of multiple members genetically matching each other that may indicate they have a common Kent ancestry. For this reason, DISTANT genetic connections with other project members may be listed on this site. The typical relationship between particpating members are those of fourth to sixth cousins. If you would NOT like to participate in this group collaboration, please let the administrator know and your request will be honored. Please see the examples listed in the "Welcome!" section (below) to see how this benefit is displayed.
We warmly welcome our newest KENT family researchers to our project, along with their known lineages.
Lineages of KENT ancestors are first grouped together by geographical region, then by grouping together any known common KENT ancestry. The region best associated with an ancestor may be used to connect with other established branches.
